Technology, Data & Innovation Group

The Technology, Data and Innovation group makes sure people and businesses in the UK can use the communication channels and platforms upon which they rely every day. It plays a central role in transforming our regulatory and policy work – making sure we stay one step ahead of the latest developments in the communications sector.

Its work spans critical sectors like broadband and mobile networks, through to broadcast TV and radio services. It is also responsible for helping us regulate UK video-sharing platforms and focus on how we can better regulate online safety – helping people to live safer lives online.

It is also helping us to build a deeper understanding of how new and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, augmented reality, machine learning, and deep learning will play a role across the sectors we regulate.

The different teams

There is a range of exciting and challenging opportunities in the Technology, Data and Innovation group

Trust and Safety team

This team is key to how we approach the regulation of online safety. Roles within this team require people with a passion for understanding the technologies driving trust in online services and platforms and a desire for making the online world safer.

Communications and Media Technologies Team

This team is where experts work to make sure Ofcom can anticipate, or even influence, the technologies that will support future communications networks, including mobile and broadband networks.

Data Innovation Hub

This team makes sure we use data in the most effective way – helping us to design, manage, and enable world-class regulatory practice.

Technology Policy Team

This team makes sure we bring together our expertise in technology and policy development in the most effective way – addressing the key policy issues affected by new and existing developments in the technology space.

The Technology, Data, and Innovation group is open to a range of candidates from all backgrounds and skill sets. The most important thing is that you have a passion for tech, and an openness to new ways of working. We’re looking for people who want to make an impact on the communications sector in the UK in a value-driven and supportive organisation. Some skills or experience that might be relevant include:

  • academic/research skills;
  • product design/development/testing;
  • computer vision;
  • digital Identity;
  • trust and safety technologies;
  • standards development;
  • modelling, analysis and evaluation of communications or media technologies;
  • practical experience of deploying technologies into products or communications networks; and
  • data architecture, engineering and analytics
